Unified

What is GSE's Unified League?

Our Unified League is an inclusive opportunity that unites students of all abilities, regardless of their academic, physical, or cognitive differences, in weekly asynchronous competitions. Unified fosters social inclusion by encouraging friendships among students of different abilities and their typically developing peers. The Unified League enriches students’ recreational experiences and boosts their social and communication skills, making it a powerful platform for growth.

Who Can Participate?

A Unified Team consists of a 1:1 ratio of general education students, including those in Resource and ICR programs, and students classified under special education categories such as LLD (Mild, Moderate, Severe), Cognitively Impaired, or Multiple Disabilities. Additionally, students with physical disabilities affecting gaming capabilities or any student on the Autism spectrum, irrespective of their academic placement, qualify as Unified players. Specialized schools or programs that do not offer general education may participate with a team composed entirely of Unified students.

Unified's Inagural Season: Empowering Diversity in Esports

In our inaugural season, athletes competed in Mario Kart Time Trials, chosen for its broad appeal and accessibility to players with varying abilities. This season successfully united gamers and their neurotypical peers in asynchronous competition, focusing on inclusivity, teamwork, and a shared love for gaming. As the league progressed, it became a vibrant community where friendships formed, skills improved, and all participants embraced a spirited gaming culture, demonstrating the league’s potential to bridge differences and foster unity.

As GSE Unified expands, we are broadening our game selection to suit varied interests, implementing a mentorship program to connect gamers with and without neurodiversity or physical diversities, and boosting participation in our programs.

Our long-term vision includes providing schools with necessary adaptive equipment, creating welcoming gaming environments, launching an esports tournament for valuable competitive experience, and organizing meet-ups to strengthen community bonds to create a more inclusive and engaging environment, promoting personal growth and community integration within esports.

Friends List Meetups: Our meetups are designed to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where neurodiverse and neurotypical peers can connect, play, and grow their friends list. Join us for an enriching experience that celebrates diversity, fosters understanding, and builds lasting friendships through the shared love of gaming.
